Rooted in faith, grounded in family, and devoted to her community, Sakinda is answering the call to lead the Democratic party forward. Her lifelong dedication to public service is driven by compassion, integrity, and a fierce commitment to uplifting those most often overlooked—shaped by her own powerful story.
An Advocate Rooted In Justice
Sakinda's journey into law began as a Public Defender in Prince George's County,
where she fought to uphold the rights of all citizens—regardless of income—within
the criminal justice system. Her passion for justice was deeply personal, shaped
by witnessing her older brother’s struggles with that very system.
Why this matters: Now, more than ever, Sakinda's dedication
is essential. We need bold leaders in the Democratic Party who will stand up for
our communities against the forces of MAGA extremism.
The Drive to Deliver Results
Growing up as a "military brat," Sakinda developed a deep appreciation for the
diversity of our country and the opportunities to create meaningful change. She
was inspired by the resilience of her mother, grandmother, and aunt—women who
overcame racism and gender bias to excel in nursing, computer science, and military
logistics. Their example instilled in her a relentless drive to deliver results.
After serving as a Public Defender, Sakinda continued her legal career as an
Attorney in Prince George’s County’s Office of the County Attorney. She later became
the Director of Legislation and Advocacy for Neighborhood Legal Services Program of
Washington, DC, where she helped individuals and families secure housing, navigate
family law, and find consumer legal solutions.
Why this matters: As those who oppose our nation’s ideals seek to
undermine democracy and the rule of law, we need a Democratic Party with the
tenacity to deliver meaningful results for the People.
The Passion to Serve
The military service of her father and grandfather, along with her own
experience as a military spouse, instilled in Sakinda a deep commitment
to serving both the Nation and our community. Since taking on the role
of the County Executive's Liaison to the Council, Sakinda has demonstrated
unwavering dedication — navigating complex issues with poise, fostering
collaboration, and standing up for the people she represents.
A mother of three, she works to pass on the values of service to her
children and the broader community, volunteering as a mentor with youth
organizations.
Why this matters: Encouraging and supporting the next
generation of leaders takes experience and vision. With rising corruption
and threats to vital services like Medicare, the Democratic Party needs
servant-leaders who will continue the march toward progress.
